dosemu2 can do this through -t/-dumb, but having it for DOSBox-X is likely, given the scope of DOSBox-X emulating special textmode video tricks, super idiotic at this point. But I'd like to know if it could be considered.

With the current -display2 option in the code, DOSBox-X actually does this partially already, but there are two apparent limitations: only mono outputs will be displayed on the console/terminal window, and the input is done through the main DOSBox-X window rather than the console/terminal window. DOSBox-X will fully support this feature if there are no such limitations.
