Which machine emulation is the best? #2586

As long as I have used DOSBox SVN Daum, I usually set the machine emulation to vesa_nolfb, since, according to my calculations, it should be better than vesa_oldvbe, because NOLFB is based on VESA 2.0, which is higher than VESA 1.2, on which vesa_oldvbe is based on, and therefore I have my reason to believe that NOLFB is better than OLDVBE. I think VESA is better than SVGA because games with advanced engines like Build are VESA based. I see that DOSBox-X emulates pc98, pc9801, pc9821, fm_towns, mcga and mda. So the question is: Are the six latter mentioned better than VESA? If so: Which of them is best? I think some machine emulations can have very bad sides, although they are best on others.

Have you experimented to see which works best for you? There is no single best emulation for all games and applications.

Right now machine types "pc98", "pc9801" and "pc9821" are essentially the same and all refer to the Japanese NEC PC-98 mode. You probably want to use this mode only if you are interested in Japanese mode emulation, such as playing Japanese games.
