The debugger has a lot of room for improvement, yes. I haven't gotten around to it though.
How do you envision an external debugger connecting to DOSBox-X? Over a socket? Named pipe?
Hello,
Thank you for your fast answer! I leave the answer to more experienced users than me.
However, I have collected over the past months some topics on the Vogons forum that might give you a more precise idea.
I’m afraid I don’t know anything that would meaningfully contribute to this discussion. Sorry I can’t be of more help.
@timofonic, don't forget about @yuv422 and @LowLevelMahn, who are also involved with idados.
Hello,
Thank you very much for you impressive work on your DOSBox fork, and thank you also for your recent YouTube video.
I'm a regular user of DOSBox for playing games, but I also use it to reverse engineer old DOS games. The original DOSBox debugger is not the easiest thing to use and I've always wanted something easier to use, like the Steem debugger, or more modern, like a
gdbserver
functionality.I humbly want to know if a reworked debugger has ever been one of the ideas for DOSBox-X, or if everyone is waiting for someone else to work on it ; as I would love to help, but have no knowledge about emulator programming, nor debugger programming, and therefore I'm not the person suited for this job, but only an interested user.
Best regards to all the programmers involved in this project.
