Question

I have Windows 98 installed and running in DosBox-x. I am using the latest (March). I am trying to play Silent Steel. I am getting an error message that I need to Install Video For Windows and Indeo 3.2 Codec.

The readme file for the game mentioned one of the requirements is MPEG MCI driver. I don't if this the same as the error message. Where can I get the appropriate driver and what version do i need? Thanks..

Have you checked that no similar question(s) exist?

Update - I got Silent Steel running. I had to install Video For Windows. I am now trying to get another game to run; Law and Order: Justice is Served. This game may be tougher; maybe impossible, The only emulator that I found to run the game is VMware. The trick was that I have to checked the option "3d acceleration". Without it; the game menu does not show. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I am trying to move away from Vmware...too bloated and features I don't need.

Strange, Video For Windows has been part of Windows since 95. Maybe not the Indeo 3.2 codec, but I think that's still an option provided with Windows. Try the Add/Remove control panel applet and look for the tab about Windows components, specifically about installing multimedia codecs.

I checked Win98 in DosBox-x and VMware; there is nothing about Video For Windows or Indeo. Maybe someone can find the game on the net and try to get it working on their Win98 DosBox-x,

VMware has an option for 3d acceleration. This must be checked. I guess DosBox-x does not have this feature. I wonder if this why the game won't run properly.
