jonls / redshift

Redshift adjusts the color temperature of your screen according to your surroundings. This may help your eyes hurt less if you are working in front of the screen at night.

redshift causing flickering screen? #221

Open rw1018 opened 9 years ago

I just installed redshift (ubuntu 14.04) but its causing my screen to flicker between the red color temperature and regular temperature. Anybody know what might be causing this?

Thanks!

As I reported in #588, I have recently upgraded to Arch kernel 4.15.6-1 and it seems like the flickering has gone away for me. I have a Radeon 560 with amdgpu.dc=1.

C-Higgins commented 6 years ago

I have updated from 4.15.6 to 4.15.16 in sequence and while the flickering is less frequent than on 4.15.3, it remains. Will update once 4.16 hits Fedora repos.

Update: 4.17 reduces the flicker to once every few hours. Completely bearable now.

supagu commented 6 years ago

This is still happening on the 4.16 kernel. Whenever the mouse moves the screen flickers....

Gnarflord commented 6 years ago

I had the same issue on arch 4.15.15-1 with bspwm as my WM. However, the flickering disappeared after I removed compton from my startup script. I would theorize, that we're searching for the bug in the wrong place.

Mel34 commented 6 years ago

4.17-rc1 fixed it for me with amdgpu.dc=1

ashleybone commented 6 years ago

4.17.2 with amdgpu.dc=1 has fixed this issue for me.

HadrienG2 commented 6 years ago

I think 4.17 resolves this for me as well. Maybe it's time to close this thread?

Zamundaaa commented 6 years ago

Upgrading to 4.17 fixed this for me, too. Thankfully no flickering anymore!

felipecustodio commented 6 years ago

@Gnarflord my screen was flickering a lot, now testing without Compton the flickering is gone, even without the -o flag.

boeremak commented 6 years ago

I had this issue on 4.17.2. Closing one plasmoid in KDE seems to have fixed it. I have two identical taskbars on my two screens with 2 Redshift plasmoids.

dekay commented 6 years ago

I agreed with @Mel34 that this issue should be closed.

I experience this as well. Running Arch 5.5.11-arch1-1. No DE, just Xmonad and redshift-gtk in the autostart.

ghost commented 4 years ago

Getting this on Sway and AMDGPU, none of the kernel parameters mentioned here or on the Arch Wiki fixed the issue.

same - Linux Mint 21.3

uninstall and killing process/es didnt help, only restart after that helped
