This is where we're going to centralize the discussion about system dashboards and menus.
Part of what we brought up when discussing issue #5.
Problem we're trying to solve:
Common system tasks are hard to find and access both for new and experienced users.
Possible solutions include:
A dropdown on the 'system dashboard' menu item to access the most frequently needed settings
Rearranging and simplifying the main system dashboard (UX B/C break, must go into major version release like J5)
Removing redundant items from the system dashboard (modules, user groups, etc)
Things to remember as we discuss this issue:
Permissions affect which menu items and dashboard items are available. We need to account for the default permission sets.
One person's 'frequently used' items may differ from another.
Needs may be different when the site is being built vs when the site is in maintenance.
- Idea: Dev mode toggle, maybe? Turns off caching, switches system menu items, etc? Would have to make it difficult to enable on accident (intentional friction), easy to disable from anywhere. Also UX B/C break and possibly a technical one, would have to go into J5 or J6 depending.
