Change of license #27

Closed ar0ch closed 7 years ago

ar0ch commented 7 years ago

stringMLST will be relicensed into CC Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) on Friday, April 21 2017.

We feel CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 accurately reflects our original intent and that no additional restrictions or limitations are placed on users of stringMLST with this change. We hope this will clarify the licensing of stringMLST, and facilitate third-party packages and derivative works. stringMLST will remain Open Source Software and free for noncommercial use.

Why only on April 21? Also, thanks for adding the license.

ar0ch commented 7 years ago

For two reasons:

  1. Give time for some administrative things on our end (Written approval for change of license from past and present Jordan Lab / Applied Bioinformatics Laboratory members)

  2. To give notice and time for response for anyone who has submitted code to this project and doesn't wish their code to be relicensed.

We've completed (1) and don't foresee any issues with (2). Just playing it safe :)

Sounds great! Will you make a new release on that day with the license? Bioconda guidelines like pulling from github releases instead of a random commit.

ar0ch commented 7 years ago

Yes, I'll coordinate a new release on github and pypi Friday (hopefully in the morning EST).

@Takadonet the latest tag should be good to go for you

ar0ch commented 7 years ago

I lied, please use tag 0.3.7. My unit tests didn't catch a couple UTF8 issues errors in tag0.3.6.3
