Animation broken in Google Earth 5 #320

Which products are relevant to this feature request?

Google Earth

What should this feature enhancement do?

Be able to do things that Google Earth 4 could do.

Are there any currently known workarounds that produce the same, or
similar, result?

Not any more. Every subsequent version appears to get worse. If I could
distribute version 4 to people or they could access it on the web that
would be great.

At present there is no way to put an animated model in Google Earth and
move around the model freely. This was a really cool feature of Google
Earth 4 that is no longer supported. I don't understand why Google crippled
their own software in this respect. I have asked for help on the forums but
the only Google staff who answered did not understand the problem.

As it stands I will need to remove support for Google Earth which is shame
as it was such a cool feature when it worked.

If I have to re-implement then so be it but there are no examples of being
able to freely move around whilst viewing an animated model. Tour does not
appear to support this and all the old animation examples are now broken.

Can you provide an example of what used to work and does now?

Sorry for not responding sooner to your prompt reply.

I am attaching an example that was a part of the Google Earth KML documentation
for
Google Earth 4 and also an example of what I did in the same manner.

The important differences between these animations and what can be achieved
using
Tour is that in the attached examples the user is free to navigate at will
around an
independently moving/animated object.

In Google Earth 4, these animations were smooth and reliable.

For some reason I am not being allowed to upload these examples here. I have
put them
both in the following location.

http://models.awsopenwind.org/models/Example_Site/

Both take a little while to load up and the turbine animation needs the
animation set
to full speed and to run for a little while before all the models are fully
loaded up
but then the animation is smooth. This is not the case with Google Earth 5 and
onwards. Obviously you can only have one of these animated KMLs loaded at any
one
time for it all to work.

Again, apologies for my tardy response and I will be sure to reply more
promptly in
future.

Thanks for looking at this,

Nick
