Feature Request: Stashing Links without opening them. #404

Open MintMain21 opened 1 year ago

MintMain21 commented 1 year ago

Problem Statement

Sometimes I think it would be handy when browsing to stash a tab to a group without opening it. Seeing as Tab-Stash uses bookmarks, the ideal outcome can be done using the native browser GUI for bookmarking pages, but it can be difficult to navigate and sometimes I'd rather use the bookmark option for links I'd want to keep in the long term.

Preferred Solution(s)

  1. Stash links from the context menu (similar to OneTab)

  2. Stash links by dragging and dropping them into the Tab Stash Sidebar

Alternative Solution(s)

Again, the built-in bookmarking GUI can do the same purpose,

Additional Context

This is easily my favorite extension for tab-grouping, tab-stashing, and general tab management. Thank you for making such a great extension.

Hi, I'm not totally sure I understand what you mean by "Stashing links without opening them"—this is already possible by changing Tab Stash's settings to not open the UI when you click the toolbar button or using one of the other stash options:

Is this what you're asking about?

MintMain21 commented 1 year ago

In order to stash a tab, it's assumed that it's already open.

What I'm asking about is, say, if there's a link to a page that I want to safe for later, if I could add that link to a Stash without opening the page. At best I can bookmark it with a right click.

Got it, thanks for clarifying. I'll keep this in mind for a future release!

@MintMain21 Your idea isn't a bad one. But keep in mind that Tab Stash stores its tabs as regular Firefox bookmarks, so you can already add a bookmark in the appropriate Tab Stash folder, using Firefox's built-in UI or any other extension that makes doing so easier. Sidebery may be a nice complement to Tab Stash.

This is why I'm suggesting a trick as simple as dragging/dropping links onto a stash in the sidebar. It's easy, it's intuitive, and it's an efficient alternative to using bookmark GUI.

Wouldn't an easier option be to add a left click option within the context menu? Upon encountering a link in a webpage that expands, listing the group one would like to add it to? I get this can be done with Bookmarks alone, but it seems this is perhaps what OP is getting at?
