Unable to install using pear

Steps to reproduce the problem.
1. Execute the command "pear channel-discover phpquery-pear.appspot.com" on 
terminal as show in documentation.

The expected output should be the addition of phpquery channel to pear. But the 
result of the command is:

Error: Unable to create XML parser
Discovering channel phpquery-pear.appspot.com over http:// failed with message: 
channel-add: invalid channel.xml file
Trying to discover channel phpquery-pear.appspot.com over https:// instead
Error: Unable to create XML parser
Discovery of channel "phpquery-pear.appspot.com" failed (channel-add: invalid 
channel.xml file)

Please do the needful to solve this issue.

I ended up downloading it manually from here and setting a path variable to it.

This package seems to be no longer maintained.
Use this:
http://querypath.org/

pear channel-discover pear.querypath.org
pear install querypath/QueryPath
