Evaluate Movement #6

I liked what you said about Notch and movement. So could you spend some time moving around and let me know what your thoughts are at its current state. It feels a little off to me but I can't place why.

I'm going to murder Github, I'm not sure exactly what I must've pressed, but it deleted everything I had written. I'll try and remember what I can:

I agree, movement does feel a little off.. Jumping kind of reminds me of Luigi from in Super Mario Bro's 2., a little bit too floaty. I do like the bit of acceleration it takes to get to top speed. Or at least it seems like that way to me.

I also think that when decent sounds are added to movement it will help them it will give a much more satisfying, and weighty feel.

Also I feel like a switch to toggle run/walk would be beneficial. Could keep on run as default, then when more precision is needed (combat or tricky jumps)use the walk button . Maybe even a have "hold position" button so you can stand in place and unleash some biblical devastation without running the risk across of accidentally clicking the ground and runnign to your death.

Cosmetic issues: His legs move hilariously fast. Can put that one at the bottom of the to-do list.

Ok, I tweaked the jumping a little so it is less floaty.

Caps lock not enables walk mode.

Also, his legs actually aren't animated that is a visual artifact from the shitty sprite I made :)

Would you be interested in trying to get some sounds made? I don't have a mic so I can't do much. If there is something online already that seems cool let me know, I want to make sure that the license is kosher. Jumping sounds seem easy to do with a mic and some sweet Foley artist skills...

I will investigate on how to get/create some decent jumping sounds. Also, if you're going to use caps lock as a run/walk key you should probably have it toggle. Or, if you're thinking people will be communicating with text, remap it a different key. "hey hOWS IT GOINng? Fuck sorry, caps lock" would get annoying if you're trying to chat and move at the same time. I know I pretty much never look to see if caps lock is toggled until after I've already sent the message and see that it's all fucked up.. Something just feels terribly wrong about holding down the caps lock key. Perhaps L Shift, x, or x. Something you can press easily while still keeping your hands in wasd formation.
