Map Points: Images #208

Closed jtancil closed 11 years ago

jtancil commented 11 years ago

How easy and feasible is it to open images in an overlay? If it's more than a quick fix, please let me know.

joshreisner commented 11 years ago

Not sure what you mean, thanks.

np They've added images to the points on each map. If you click to enlarge the image, it goes to a new page with just the image e.g. Progressive Era Map>Grand Street Settlement

Ideally, it would open in a lightbox/overlay on top of the map.

Make more sense? jt

Oh, ok. This is the same as the other open issue with linking to the image overlay.

Ok so there's some progress on this. When people link to image overlays, they can insert media but must choose link to -> Attachment Page when inserting. Definitely don't link to media file, which is what they seem to be doing.

I will go in and use my already-written link fixer to fix these links, or they can fix them manually.

However there's another issue, see the example on the Progressive Map: http://povertyhistory.org/maps#progressive

I did Greenpoint Settlement as a demo, but the image won't close, and I believe it's maybe because the image was uploaded to the map point, while the overlay expects that images would always be uploaded to posts. Would images regularly be uploaded to other post types yet need to be visible in the overlay?

jtancil commented 11 years ago

They should link to Attachment Page in all instances, correct?

If the link-fixer script is quick and painless, just use that.

They'll definitely want images to display in the Map and they hope to have them in the Policy Overview. Is getting this to work/them to close a big deal? If so, I am trying to get them to pay for the Policy Overview work and perhaps this is part of that...?

Yes, all media, if it’s linked, should link to the attachment page.

My question is not where they will show up, but where they’re uploaded. I’m pretty sure the answer is yes, they want to upload them anywhere and have it simply close the window instead of the impossible “return to post” in cases when they weren’t uploaded to a post.

This is done now too. Grand Street Settlement in Progressive, or Bellevue on Early NY are both working now but weren't before. If they don't get the message about linking to the attachment page, you should just be able to run the fixer again. It won't mess anything up if there's nothing to fix. http://povertyhistory.org/links

It only did something when there's something under "Replaces"

jtancil commented 11 years ago

Cool! Dumb q: Does hitting that page run the link fixer script?
