change smoothing in LOS fit #33

This currently will break if run with the default options. Modify it so users can fix it and it will still sample OK.

Also see if I can add in the option to not monotonically sort the results. That prevents some of the weirdness of position swapping but fundamentally prevents negative jumps, which @catherinezucker wants to add in.
