There's a program named "ffcast" that I know of... it uses ffmpeg to do screencasts too, so we might be able to look into that. Link: https://github.com/lolilolicon/ffcast

Not sure though, Doesn't seem to have a package for any major distros repositories. So basically it would have to be downloaded via the web, built, and then used. Of course these things could be automated, But I've never been a fan of a script automatically downloading anything. I can do most (screencasting full screen, screencasting only a window) with ffmpeg and xwininfo. The only plus side is the xrectsel program it includes, but I never really wanted to capture just a designated area.
I really hate the GUI screencast tools that are out there, I'll be making a plugin for Lauf that'll give users the ability to record screencast through ffmpeg.
