Profile Will Not Save In Mac Version #100

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?

Using Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.2

1. Open nTorrent (From "nTorrent-bin-0.5-beta-mac.tar.bz2")
2. Select SSH Connection and enter information.
3. Save Profile
4. Restart nTorrent
5. Find the saved profile missing.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Profile will not save, however success seen with "Local" setting, but not SSH
(haven't tried HTTP).

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

nTorrent 0.5 Beta running on Leopard 10.5.2 with JSE6 1.6 Developers Intel
64bit Package

Please provide any additional information below.

If you need Mac testers, I can definitely volunteer my efforts. Love this app,
and it's the only one
of its kind.

Best Regards,

nTorrent data files: http://code.google.com/p/ntorrent/wiki/StartingnTorrent

Can someone please post their log file here after creating a new profile?

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
How can I generate a log for that?

Original comment by maidens...@gmail.com on 13 Jun 2008 at 8:05

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
$HOME/.ntorrent/log* will contain the entire ntorrent log from each time the
application launches..

I should also add that when right clicking the profile tab above and using the
option "close". It does nothing, and
does not close the profile.

All in all, the profile system seems unresponsive.

this was a minor issue fixed right after package release. Download the svn
version if
you are highly affected of that issue.

The log file indicates that its a superclass, apple.laf package that is
unserializable. This causing an exception to be thrown when trying to write the
profile. Im guessing your using a apple look and feel?, try changing the look
and
feel to something else, and then try to save a profile. compare the two log
files, if
the same error appears, then its something to do with mac osx java bundle.

Seems to have done the trick with "Metal".

Although it still won't let me "close" profiles.

Would you like me the logs to this as well?

Original comment by maidens...@gmail.com on 13 Jun 2008 at 10:09

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
no, close profiles is an issue that has been corrected. you just have an old
version
of nTorrent. to get the latest, download the SVN version as previously stated.

it seems that this bug isn't nTorrent's fault. It should be reported to the
macdevs
responsible for integrating java with mac osx.

i will however look into a workaround for this issue some time in the future,
even
though it's not ntorrent's fault..

i see there is a new release of ntorrent and it is out of beta. It is a great
app but I was surprised to find this issue
still present. anyway this prompted me to return to this thread and see if any
developments.
i can confirm that if i switch to Metal i can save a profile, and when i launch
again it defaults back to mac look
but i can also see the now saved profile so all is good.
I might also mention that mac has just done a java , after this update i was
unable to launch ntorrent. after
changing the default java engine from 1.5 32bit to 1.6 64bit ntorrent it worked
again. This update does not fix
this issue however.

yup, i had to take a shortcut when releasing ntorrent 0.5 as im planning to
implement
some new technologies and drasticly change the code. this issue will be fixed
when im
done recoding the profile module. Im going to modularize the connection types,
ssh,
local, and http, to make room for a new nTorrent protocol. with this change i
decided
to redo the profile module, and since its quite a big change i could not
release this
under ntorrent 0.5 as it was in beta stage. and congrats on the 1.6 java for
mac :)

Quick fix nTorrent OSX for saving profiles.

open a connection,
change skin to 'metal'
right click on the tab which represents your connection
choose new
fix a new connection and save it.
quit ntorrent.
open ntorrent and your connection should be there.

This is still a problem with nTorrent-0.5.1 on Mac (Tested with Mac OSX 10.6.2)
- The
workaround in Comment 19 (1st April 09) still works though.

yes thats right, but i think (emphasis on "think") it may have been fixed in
trunk.
So i guess you just have to wait to the 0.6 version. not a minor release as
0.5.1 ;)

I have the same issue on Leopard. Comment 19 helped me. Thanks, b.g.l.nelissen!
But I
think that this issue is a bug.

ntorrent 0.5.1 still have this problem on 10.6.7.
But the workaround in comment 19 does work.
