Refactor date queries #4

@PolRod People seem to be excited about this app, so I'm gonna try to clean up the code and probably submit it to ZD labs. If you have time to take a look, awesome. If not, all good. Just let me know and I'll merge.

This PR just cleans up the date functions; the functionality should be the same. The relevant chunks are at lines 47 and 70.
