This year we got caught by surprise with our video call links not working. We swapped on the fly to https://meet.jit.si/AngeManagement/[PuzzleNameHere], which mostly worked, but did require a Google/GitHub login, blocked certain characters from the URL (made a hotfix during hunt to deal with this), and occasionally failed, along with having a confusing moderator message for the first person.
We'll need to decide what we're doing next year as part of the overall tech revamp. We could probably do this again. For HQ I'm not too concerned since setting up a one-off call is easy. Per-puzzle is a bit trickier.
Other options:
No per-puzzle video chat by default - just audio. While video is nice for HQ, it's not clear to me that we need it often for per-puzzle chat since you're generally looking at the puzzle instead. Audio only is more efficient on CPU. And we'd potentially get it for free with Jolly Roger.
Discord. Video calls can be done with up to 25 people which should be plenty for a per-puzzle chat. Probably makes the most sense if we use Cardboard or Big Board but switch over to Discord for per-puzzle chat.
