Friendlier CLI

• [x] use log instead of fmt to send informational output to stderr.
• [x] don't panic. instead, log the error and return a status code (this can be improved further).

ive long since moved the explorer stuff out to its own project, probably never should have had it in here as it was just a spike. the example files for usage really dont need to be friendly, in fact, i dont want them too friendly as they are just meant to be examples of how the api can be used in an api, not really planning to have them be anything but an example. c
