Another calendar scrolling issue #21

Sometimes the calendar gets stuck in what you might call "from today" mode.

I've noticed this on my mobile, but never on my laptop. Matthias Mahr (SLOW) has also complained about it. I have noticed it on both my normal phone browser Safari, and also on Chrome. When I saw it on Chrome, it was I think the first time I'd used Chrome to view the Mole site, so it seems unlike to be a browser cache issue.

When it's playing up, you get a list of 12 events from today. Clicking "month" has no effect whatsoever. Clicking "next" at the bottom of the list likewise has no effect.

Selecting the bottom event on the list, and then clicking "next" from the event detail did work for getting the 13th event. And clicking "next" again brought up the 14th. But as soon as I clicked "all events" at the top, I was back to the first 12 and no scrolling.

Eventually I tried asking for all "Regional" events. Clicking "next" from the bottom of the list of the first 12 Regionals worked, and suddenly everything was OK again.

On the other browser, I tried asking for "Major" events. There were less than 12 of those, and it still didn't work when I went back to "all events". I then tried "Local", and "next" from the bottom of the list, and that worked. So it looks the bug can be cleared by inputting any selection which picks up more than 12 events.

I'm struggling to reproduce this. For now I've increased the maximum number of events to show to 50, which almost certainly doesn't fix the issue but might reduce the frequency/severity.

Issue is still here.

Unusually for me, I was wanting to look at future events on my mobile (iPhone) today, in early October. I simply could not get it to go to October, trying to change the date range in the way that works on the laptop has no effect on the mobile.

The closest I was able to get was restricting to a particular type of events, I think I chose UKOL events but any series would have done, and then picking an event close to the date I wanted. From that event, I was able to scroll one event at a time. But apart from being a horribly cumbersome method, scrolling from event to event is likely to miss some (that's issue 20, which applies on laptop as well as mobile).

I'm struggling to reproduce this on Android and don't have an iPhone to experiment with.

On my phone, what I see above the events is: Magnifying glass = search A sqaure box with lines and dots = change view A date range with a "v" to the right, clicking this pops up a calendar where you can scroll months.

If I scroll to October and tap on 1 then I get this: image

can you compare that with the steps you follow on iPhone?

IanDitchfield2 commented 3 months ago

I can do all those steps on the iPhone, but they make no difference to the list of events displayed, which obstinately continues to start from today. Perhaps I can show you next time we go to the same event? - although that might not be for a while as I'm chasing UK O League points in Leeds this weekend. Or you could try someone else with an Apple phone?

Just booted up an ancient iPad and that also works in Safari and Chrome. It's running iOS 12.5.7.

There must be something different we are doing rather than hardware/browser. To figure this out either need to meet in person or share a screen reording.
