Link not appearing #24

Closed jbutz closed 12 years ago

jbutz commented 12 years ago

This past Friday, or thereabouts, the "Save to Drive" link stopped appearing.

Hmm, would your account happen to be a Google Apps account? I've heard that a lot of people using GApps are noticing the extension no longer operating.

Otherwise, this could be a conflict with another extension. I've seen a few before and took care of them but there's certainly a chance that there could be another.

Have you installed any other extensions recently before this all started happening?

Thanks for reporting this, bud!

Link stopped showing up for us about the same time. We're also on GApps. Have made no other changes or added any extensions. Chrome Version 22.0.1229.79 m

Same here..

Switched whole company to google app. Somehow GA it is not a business tool !!!! Most common things are not around in GA. "Save to Drive" was a very helpfull tool !!!!!

It is strange that a billion dollar company is not aware of what there users want. It seems that google is just a bunch of wizkids programma a lot of good and funny stuff but it is not aware that people are using it and not robots. Just a small hint for Google ...hire people who understand how peoples use your software.

What i understand is that at least some colleages switch back to MS. (i know a lot of info, but see it as a frustrated GA user)

Hi there,

We are on Google Apps as well and experiencing the same issue. No new extension installed. Suddenly, it just stopped appearing. This is a fairly critical tool and we actually have a demo with a VP today around this capability... =(

Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

jpsullivan commented 12 years ago

Really sorry you guys are having these problems! I'm currently in the process of getting myself a Google Apps account (its taking forever to verify...) but I'll have you know that I am working as fast as possible to get these issues all fixed up for you guys.

In the meantime, maybe one of you can assist me. If you open the Chrome developer console (F12) and refresh Gmail on a page that has attachments, do any red error labels pop up in the bottom right corner? Gmail always has a couple errors that show up, but you should be able to filter those from the extension as well.

Any help with that would be much appreciated! In the meantime, please keep an eye on this post and I'll try to keep everyone updated with my progress.

same issue since the new version of chrome (for us yesterday)

Here what you asked for :

I also have Google Chrome Canary (Version 24.0.1283.0 canary) installed and it fails to load in that version as well.

jpsullivan commented 12 years ago

Alright gang, I have updated the app to 1.3.6, so if you wouldn't mind updating and checking it out to see if it is working for you, I'd certainly appreciate it.

I noticed on my GApps account that Gmail was having a hard time saving a few attachments to Drive. This is because Google is phasing out this "save link" and is flaky at best.

To remedy this, I am building a dedicated service to save files in the future.

kalexisaren commented 12 years ago

Hi there,

Thanks for taking this on and trying to fix it. So far, still not working... =(

Let me know how else we can help you fix this issue.

Hmm, well first lets start with what we're seeing.

Does the "Save to Drive" link appear at all when viewing an attachment? If not, have you tried giving Gmail a full refresh (CTRL+R on PC or CMD+R on Mac)? If not, try that first.

Otherwise, when clicking the new link, do you get a "Sorry there was an error saving this attachment etc etc" message?

kalexisaren commented 12 years ago

Hi Josh, turned off ALL extensions except for 1.3.6 of Save to Drive. Refreshed Gmail (tried also fully logging out of my account and back). Still no Save to drive. Just "Save" and "Download"

Hmmm. I might have an idea. What is the attachment extension if you don't mind me asking?

jpsullivan commented 12 years ago

Alright I think I got it. Stupid OpenFormat links...

The extension has been updated to 1.3.7, now. Hope this does the trick for ya!

kalexisaren commented 12 years ago

So odd!

For PowerPoint and Word, I see only "View" and "Download"

For Excel, I see "View" "Open as a Google Spreadsheet" and "Download"

For PDF, JPG, PNG files, I see "View" "Save to Drive" and "Download"
