error - problem retrieving the original document #6

Closed ashokzg closed 13 years ago

I tried to save the pdf attachement at the URL https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&ik=645d4b64d5&view=att&th=120f57bbfcc5e5f7&attid=0.5&disp=inline&realattid=f_fu507on44&safe=1&zw

and I keep getting the error "Sorry, there was a problem retrieving the original document. Please try again later."

The error page had the following URL: https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=sv&attid=0.5&pid=gmail&thid=120f57bbfcc5e5f7&ik=645d4b64d5&disp=safe&zw&view=att&th=120f57bbfcc5e5f7

There was also a .docx and a .pptx file in the same mail. When I tried to save both these documents too, I received the same error as above. But in spite of the error these two files got saved in docs. But the pdf did not get saved.

Hmm, now that's odd. Thanks for opening the issue, man. I'll give this one a look asap and see what I can find. Actually, is it possible to simply "View" the documents you are trying to save? Its a bit of a longshot, but perhaps the Docs server was temporarily down(?).

Nonetheless, I'll certainly poke around and see if I can replicate this.

ashokzg commented 13 years ago

I tired it again and I was able to view the file but getting the same error when I tried to save. The pdf file opened with the chrome pdf viewer. Here's the URL when the pdf was viewed. https://mail-attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment?ui=2&ik=645d4b64d5&view=att&th=120f57bbfcc5e5f7&attid=0.5&disp=inline&realattid=f_fu507on44&safe=1&zw&saduie=AG9B_P9C1TbkOhpR6gSX2xErDfoA&sadet=1317484647377&sads=QswsP6G_bhVgxEpB1V5M5Lh6vfw

I'm not sure if its of any help, but please note that I have 2 step verification enabled for my google account.

jpsullivan commented 13 years ago

Let's see here.

Well I setup the 2-step verification for my account just a few moments ago (very cool, btw! Never knew about that before!) and everything seems to still be working fine over here.

Would it be possible for you to copy and paste both the original "View" link and then the generated "Save to Docs" link from your email? Be sure to copy it from the email itself though as once you click on each one Google does some url magic to add some unique parameters which I assume is for security purposes.

Sorry about the issues so far! I appreciate your patience on this.

The following three are from the mail before I click on any of them: View URL: https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&ik=645d4b64d5&view=att&th=120f57bbfcc5e5f7&attid=0.5&disp=inline&realattid=f_fu507on44&safe=1&zw

Save to Docs URL: https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=sv&attid=0.5&pid=gmail&thid=120f57bbfcc5e5f7&ik=645d4b64d5&disp=safe&zw&view=att&th=120f57bbfcc5e5f7

The following two are after I click on the links:

I'm having the same issue on my home computer + Google Apps account. I thought it was an anomaly... Because it works perfectly on my work computer + Google Apps. Let me know if you need more debug data.

Here's the problem (with the Google Apps account anyway):

View link: https://docs.google.com/a/federalresources.com/viewer?

Save to docs link: https://docs.google.com/viewer?

Missing the "/a/federalresources.com"

Must be cached at work?

jpsullivan commented 13 years ago

Ahh, now that makes a bit more sense. I got lazy and just did a literal return of the default url rather than spit out a proper url. Quick fix for that.

I'll be pushing out an update within the hour that builds the links in a much smarter way. Just cleaning up everything now. The cleaner URL's will include a few more params that I found earlier to be useless. Perhaps I thought wrong, so we'll see how it works for ya'll.

jpearls commented 13 years ago

PDFs are "opening" again instead of saving. :(

jpsullivan commented 13 years ago

Yep sorry guys! I sent over the wrong update to Google by accident. Quick fix should be applying right now.

jpearls commented 13 years ago

Bad news Sully - the "Sorry, there was a problem retrieving the original document. Please try again later." error is back.

PDFs only...

Missing the "/a/domain.com" in the URL.

jpsullivan commented 13 years ago

Sorry for the troubles, fellas. I pushed out another update just now. I'm hoping this one seals the deal!

It's frustratingly hard to test for this particular issue since I have no way of accessing this myself. Thanks for the assistance, guys.

jpearls commented 13 years ago

Seems to be working like a charm.

jpsullivan commented 13 years ago

Now that's what I wanna hear. Cool beans. I'm going to close this for now but lemme know it it blows up again.
