benthic cleaning issues

Currently using total hard coral cover and macroalgal cover to characterise benthic variation.

• [x] Are there structural complexity estimates at Maldives, Chagos, GBR?? Yes. Darling et al. Coral Reefs.

Maldives

• [x] Maarehea has 2 depths (7, 8m). Go 8
• [x] Estimating percent cover as total number of occurrences / 100, then grouping into hard coral, other, available substrate, and algal groups. Yup works.
• [x] Missing habitat names and have new site names, so can't match in to herb biomass

Seychelles

• [x] decision needed on whether we use plan view method (coarse, gives us 1994 estimates) or line transect method (comparable to other regions, but no 1994 or 2005 data). Just use 2008 onwards
• [x] No turf data with plan view. Does macroalgae type include calcifying and non-calcifying?

Chagos

• [x] No macroalgae variable. Only halimeda at Chagos?
• [x] Site names do not match up with fish dataset

Get 2012 benthic data from Nick... 6sites.. diego garcia + north diamont.

Send Nick Maldives and Chagos names for each dataset.

Consider all MA, calc vs non-calc, sum hard corals.

GBR

• [x] Check that algal and coral groups are appropriate. Ditto above.

Herbivore functional groups

• [x] Siganus argenteus is browser in Seychelles but grazer in GBR.
• [x] Doublecheck FG list for duplicate categories

@Jeneen : Use SURF list to reassign every sp.
