Power Distribution Unit (PDU)

The Power Distribution Unit is responsible for powering all component controller boards (panels, etc.) and simulator accessories (RPi, external displays, ETH Switch, USB Hubs, etc.)

The PDU is controlled via the SIM PWR Panel on the left console.

Major Internal Components

  1. ATX Power Supply
  2. PCB w/ Arduino Nano with in/out connectors for front/back panels.

Back Panel Components:

  1. 120V Connector for ATX Power Supply
  2. Circuit Breaker(s)
  3. USB Bulkhead Connector for nano debug and serial feed.
  4. Status LEDs
  5. Connector for remote PC Power and PC Reset.

Front Panel Components:

  1. Inputs from SIM PWR (MASTER, PC PWR, PC RESET, DISP, ELEC)
  2. PWR BUS Outs

Specifications:

Functionality:

  1. When MASTER switched ON on SIM PWR Panel on Left Console:

    1. ATX Power Supply 24 PIN Connector: PS-ON (PIN 16) shorts to ground, turning on ATX Power Supply.
    2. Arduino Nano Receives Power
  2. Nano waits to receive PWR-OK signal (PIN 8, ATX 24-PIN) and turns on PWR-OK status LED on back panel, and enables bus activation.

  3. When PC switch PWR (Momentary) it activates PC Power connector to turn on PC.

  4. When PC switch RESET (Momentary) it activates the Reset connector to reset PC.

  5. When DISP switch ON, DISP bus items receive power.

  6. When DISP switch OFF, DISP bus items cut power.

  7. When ELEC switch ON, ELEC bus items receive power.

  8. When ELEC switch OFF, ELEC bus items cut power.

  9. When MASTER switched OFF:

    1. Power to Nano cut.
    2. PS-ON (ATX) cut.
