Camera detected but black/no video in Skype (Ubuntu 20.04, snap) #31

Seems to be working - Discord and Cheese get video previews, I presume it will work in calls also. But Skype does not - Gopro is listed as a camera, and can be selected but the preview remains black and video cannot be started.

This appears to be a skype problem, not a problem with gopro_webcam. But for anyone else who experiences this, I will post a solution here when I have one.

I had the same problem both on Skype and Microsoft Teams. It seems to be related to the fact that they're both Web app/browser embedded apps, which have trouble communicating with the connected GoPro in some way when you use the desktop apps.

Upon logging into Skype and Microsoft Teams through the browser directly (with Chromium or Chrome for Teams since Firefox isn't supported), the GoPro is detected and it works. But since it's not a real webcam, you can't blur/hide the background behind you.
