How exactly did amdgpu fail? Seems like amdgpu does at least attach on FreeBSD, the missing piece was lazy BAR allocation support: https://reviews.freebsd.org/D32447

Interesting, thanks for the link. In OpenBSD's case, amdgpu was not attaching to either of the two newer GPUs. Both just said "Not configured" in dmesg. There was a new amdgpu firmware package released a couple days ago, so i just tried again after an fw_update, but that did not solve it.
