NodeBots #9

Hey @rockbot would you be up for doing a NodeBots event at JSFest :)

I propose that we do a similar event to NodeBots day back in July, or the previous JSFest. The day will mostly be an open hack day, but with a few "themes". Sumobots would be the main focus, but we'll also make AR Drones, Spheros, etc, available. I'll reach out to the Tessel folks as well to see if they want to participate as well.

Ugh, github has forgotten to send several notifications to me now, including this one. It was by pure chance that I stopped by this thread when I did :).

I'm not really certain how many people will come, to be honest. NodeBots typically has less turnout than other meetups due to the hardware thing, but since people already have tickets, maybe not? Off the top of my head I would guess maybe 20 to 30, as that's roughly how many we typically have show up for these day long events.

Everyone will (hopfeully) have a laptop, and there will need to be extra plugs for powering hardware. I think you can get by estimating 1.5 to 2 plugs per person. Tables that can fit 5-10 people each work best, as NodeBots is usually a group activity.

We shouldn't need a projector, no actual talks are scheduled.

Pap..er..Fly..er? What is this ancient magic you speak of? ;-) I didn't have any plans for flyers, but I can put one together if need be. What sort of intention were you thinking of for the flyer? Advertising the event, important information for attendees the day of, etc?

We will need to stop by with a bunch of hardware at some point in time. Would it be possible to drop it off the afternoon/evening before?

No worries about the flyer — I'll handle talking about it.

Sounds like we're good on tables, chairs, plugs.

Dropping off is easy since it's also my office building. I assume we'll meet up before, so let's just coordinate actual timing week of. Worst case, my phone number is 2023745555.

Two quick things for you @jessepollak:

I've been chatting with people at JSFest, and more people are saying they're going to go to NodeBots than I had expected. In my rough sampling, 50-60% of the people I asked said they were going, so I'm bumping my estimate up to 50 people, just to be safe. Will that cause any issues with the space?

I've been going over my calendar, and the best time for me to drop off the hardware at The Port is between 5 and 6 PM on Thursday. Does that work for you?

Increase in capacity should be totally fine.

I'll be out of the office all day/night tomorrow, so that will be a challenge. I could potentially get someone else in the building to let you in, but Friday would be easier if you could make that work. Let me know what you think.

Unfortunately Friday is tricky for me. I've been thinking about it and I should be able to just bring the equipment with me Saturday morning.

I'm thinking about getting to The Port sometime between 9 and 9:15 on Saturday, will that work?
