Feeds Not Updated #32

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
(Automatic Refresh is Enabled with an Refresh Interval of 5 minutes. Refresh
Feed on Open is Enabled. Notifications are Enabled with a ringtone selected.)

1. Wait for a feed to be updated.
2. News item comes in on PC news reader (RSSOwl).
3. News does not appear on Sparse rss.
4. More news items come in on RSSOwl. (One per day for several days from my
only feed which puts out one news item per day, five days a week.)
5. Still no new news items on Sparse rss.
6. After several days, all previous news items appear on Sparse rss also.
7. In addition, I do not believe it is putting out an audible alert even though
set up to do so.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect each news item to appear on Sparse rss about the same time as it
appears on RSSOwl. (See above for what I see instead.)

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system? Don't
remember how to check Sparse rss version, but earlier I saw somewhere that it
was 7.0. Adroid 2.2 on HTC Droid Incredible.

By the way. Important point: I do not always get 3G signal in my rural area.
Are the feeds updated over Wi-fi?

Same issue, same phone. First 6 feeds update after phone boot upon first
entering sparse rss. Then no more updates until reboot...

Thanks for the report. There is a code-based prevention of fetching items twice
at the same time. I think this is causing the problem and I will look into it.

Thanks for the response. I hope you can fix it. Spare RSS was my
favorite reader, but this issue makes it unusable. Note that it
appeared to work well until sometime in late November, early December.

I noticed, that the hard-interval of fetching was set to 15 minutes, it is now
set to 1 minute as in the ui.

Could you please try if a single refresh (long press on the feed) works?

It doesn't appear to do anything. I noticed that there is a small rss box
stuck on the last feed that was updated, like it is still processing that
feed and not moving onto the next one.

Can you try the attached version?

Installed. Didn't work at first (same problem). I deleted the feed where
it was getting stuck and rebooted. Appears to work now. Thanks!

Did you re-add that specific feed?

Yes. It appears to be working now, thanks.

Ok, great. The next version (0.7.2) will contain this update.

Please reopen this issue if it occurs again.

Is the app automatically updated, or do we have to do something to get the new
version? If so, what.

Also, how do I check to see which version I currently have? Thanks.

Forgot to ask again about whether the feeds are updated via wi-fi or only via
the cell signal.

You can update it through the market (there you can also see the version
number) or via direct download.

I will add the version-info to the about dialog.

That will be great. Thank you for your quick response. I love this app for my
application, and want to keep using it as long as it works well.

The feeds are updated via any available network connection (wifi and cell,
whichever is available).
