Update beta parser to accomodate rc3 #18

Just a small set of changes to fix issues I ran across when using this to test a newly-developed API.

There's probably still plenty of room for improvement here, but figured I'd try to share a few changes quickly in case anyone else is running in to problems. Hope you find them useful.
