I've spent most of the time cleaning the data. Here are some of my new graphs which I'll design better in illustrator.
I'll try to make them less noisy, cause now they have too much information (talking about the stacked graphs).
Hello! I'm a little robot, just having a little look around.
You need some feedback, let me summon @hakantan, @christina10211, @zle2105 for you
It looks like we need to fix up your your update a little bit! Edit it by clicking the pencil in the top right-hand corner. It requires:
Maybe you just didn't use the template? If not, edit your comment, cut and paste the template in, and then fill it out.
It's such an interesting topic!
For the line charts, I was thinking if it would be better to graph cats and dogs on the same graph so that we can have some comparison both overtime for the same species and between cats and dogs. Also adding some annotations might be great if you have something to add on (such as explanations on the sudden spike or decrease in animal testing, etc,)
For the bar chart, I really like how you do the highlighting and your annotation. Beautiful!
For you latest stacked bar charts, your color scheme looks great! ( I think the inspiration picture you selected looks more harmonious because it uses fewer colors and there are fewer categories, but I think your current color scheme is also great, especially when you have so many different animal categories. ) Another suggestion (it's totally optional since I can imagine how much work it can be) is that what if you condense your chart a little bit (for instance, instead of plotting all of the states, you group them by region and then do the plotting again?) I suggested this mainly because I kinda feel lost in this long and colorful chart, it's nicely made, but i was wondering if there is a way to improve it so that it can be more clear and sensible?
Overall, I really love how you visualize your data and your topic!
I think that this is a really interesting topic. Overall, I think the way you chose to display the data makes absolute sense. It is cool to look at, but at times overwhelming.
I am a little bit confused by the 'all the other species'-column. They are the largest chunk, but how many species are there that they do tests with? I have the feeling that this alone would warrant a chart (this might be intense time-wise, so this is just a recommendation).
I would recommend to sort your charts by something other than the name of the states, because right now there is no hierarchy. When I look at it, I have too much 'thinking' to do before I understand your chart. If it is ordered, then I get a clearer picture right away.
Moving the legend out of the chart itself – which I guess we learned just after you did this graphic – would also be good.
I don't understand what the x-axis stands for in the 'Animal Use by Species in 2016' chart. (100?)
I agree with @christina10211 that an overtime bit would be great.
All in all, really dope.
I think the second chart is great and really clear. You do a great job of matching up all the animals by color so that they are clearly comparable.
For the second graph, I would maybe cut up the graph by region just to make it easier to process. Also some notation on the various groups in outlier situations could be useful.

Pitch
Animal Use in the Research Facilities in the United States
Summary
The number of animals (covered by the Animal Welfare Act) used in research in the US rose in 2016 by 6.9% (the 2016 report is the last one published). Which animals do the researchers use more often and which of those do they subject them to painful procedures without giving them medicines? I've downloaded the pdfs with the annual reports from the Department of Agriculture, cleaned the data and I'll examine the trends.

Details
Possible headline(s): Animal Use in the Research Facilities in the US
Data set(s): From the Department of Agriculture Code repository: https://github.com/troboukis/DATA_STUDIO_PROJECT2/tree/master/2_PROJECT
Possible problems/fears/questions:
I hadn't had the time to analyse the data thoroughly. Ideally I'd like to compare the US numbers to those from other countries.
Work so far
I've downloaded the pdfs and spent tons of time to clean them. I contacted the Department of Agriculture asking for a cleaned version of the data, but unfortunately they couldn't provide one.
These are some preliminary graphs (haven't worked at those yet)
