I think the world generally doesn't like Trump, so the two possibly-interesting "compared to what?" approaches are...
Because maybe Trump is disliked by the world, but is he really disliked that much more? I figure the world loved Obama, so by just comparing him to Obama (like the Pew piece does) isn't really too reasonable.
Howdy! I'm a little robot, let's take a peek.
Please post your first revision! It should be posted by Thursday at midnight. More details available here.
You need some feedback, let me summon @julialedur, @mattrehbein, @jlstro for you
It looks like we need to fix up your pitch a little bit! Edit it by clicking the pencil in the top right-hand corner. It requires:
I agree with Soma that the 'no-one-likes Trump' angle has been done a lot. Though I do think your line graph is worthwhile; it may show what everyone knows, but it helps flesh out context of the whole story by seeing it represented graphically/quantified somehow.
I'm very curious to see which countries, if any, do trust Trump, so I'd like to see what you can pull out of that second data set.
Hey,
first of all, I do think the line graph is the right way to go here and it looks clean and simple to understand. I wonder, however, if the headline is the right one. The dips at 2003 and 2006 are severe, right? Also, if you find the time to search for more recent data, that'd be great I guess. Because if we want to know more about how the World sees Trump, we need to take a longer period of him being potus into account I guess.
Two aesthetic comments: I'd get rid of the .5 years and the y-axix could probably use a label (is it percent?)
Really cool idea! Like Matt, I'm very curious to know which countries are in favor of Trump and which are not. Maybe you can play a little bit with the data and find some interesting angles for a second graph. As improvements, I would:
so very very big group of people with a very very big question. i think too big maybe, because i can imagine the arguments - "who is 'the world' anyway" and "what is 'favorable'"
can you break this down more by country? or with some more specific questions? there are so many polls out there - you could follow your topic in so many different directions.
on this chart you could mark presidents. but since it's the world, you could mark terrorist events or stock markets rises and falls. i'd give us more info, get some more nuanced data.
I will do 5 charts of how the rest of the world thinks of Trump's policy.
This is an example of one of the issues( climate change agreements) :
There're 4 more on the rest of world in different favors of Trump "build a wall on the border between the U. S. and Mexico," "withdraw U.S. support from the Iran nuclear weapons agreement,""withdraw U.S. support for major trade agreements," "introduce tighter restrictions on those entering the U.S. from some majority-Muslim countries."
This is a chart of comparison different presidents: The world's average favorable view of the U.S.
Will have 5 charts showing how the rest of world think of Trump's policy . Will have 2 charts of comparion of different presidents.
edit on differnt layers in Illustrator!
Pitch
Summary
I'm interested in how the rest of the world thinks of Trump's policy. Different countries must have different favors of issues. The datasets use numbers showing "favoring Trump's policy" or "not favoring Trump's policy."
Details
I found five datasets have columns of years and points of each country in favor of Trump's different policies including his climate change agreements, building a wall, immigration policy and son on. The larger the number, the more favorable. Also, two of the datasets concern the share of different countries' populations that: Have a favorable view of the U.S. (TRUMPWORLD-us.csv) Trust the U.S. president when it comes to world affairs (TRUMPWORLD-pres.csv)
Possible headline(s): xxx (country name) least favors Trump's xxx(policy name) For my current graph: How the rest of the world in favor of the U.S Data set(s): https://github.com/fivethirtyeight/data/tree/master/trump-world-trust http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/07/17/9-charts-on-how-the-world-sees-trump/ Code repository: https://github.com/dz2383/data-studio/blob/master/code/project02/What%20do%20world%20think%20of%20Trump.ipynb
Possible problems/fears/questions: make scatter graph and has the error of y is not numeric solved
