Hi, this is really interesting! I love your colors and how the charts look like. However, you definitely need more labels etc explanation what's happening in these charts: what are the units for frequency, what do units mean?
The dataset looks fascinating! Here I come up with some suggestion:
Maybe give an unit for axis x for your first chart?
and the axis-y lables are unclear for now.
This is a map which shows the spills in the State of NY. I'll produce more maps which will show the spill of hazardous material, and probably a closer map to show the spills in NYC.
I'll focus in producing maps and maybe a couple of graphs.
The progress is slow, but will excel this week. Trying to find a documentation page for the data.
i like knowing what is spilled in the hudson river. can you tell us who is spilling and what they are spilling? knowing what is being spilled is very interesting. my next question is, who spilled?!
can you give us what happens after the spill? are there fines or cleanups done? i want to know if you can get away with this?!
This is exactly what I decided to focus on :) (I'll get rid of the white lines)
Hey, great map. Just out of curiosity is Sodium Bisulffite or Hydraulic Oil or some of the other weird scientify names known as something colloquial by which you can refer to it? If so I'd change that. Otherwise, great1
what is the difference here between the orange and the yellow dots? is there a way you can make the color relate to the thing? so we can see where all the diesel are, where all the sludge is...icons could also help us.
i think you can do a series of maps here, because once you get into manhattan the scale is too wide to see detail.
nice work. still want to know who?!

This is the latest version. The text is garbage (as Soma would say). I've added more information on the maps to get a better idea of the circumstances under which the spill occurred. I don't have conclusive data on who did what (unless it's stated otherwise on the dataset). If I where to publish it now, I'd look more into the area around Brooklyn and Queens. I'd join the dataset with data from enviromentals research which show the level of the chemicals in the houses in the area.

I used the project for practising Qgis and illustrator. On that end I'm kind of happy.

Pitch
Spills in New York
Summary
What kind of spills are the most common in the State of New York? What are the hazardous materials that end up in Hudson River and other waterfronts? Under State law and regulations, spills that could pollute the lands or waters of the state must be reported by the spiller (and, in some cases, by anyone who has knowledge of the spill). Examples of what may be included in a spill record includes: Administrative information (DEC region and unique seven-digit spill number). Program facility name. Spill date/time. Location. Spill source and cause. Material(s) and material type spilled. Quantity spilled and recovered. Units measured. Surface water bodies affected. Close date (cleanup activity finished and all paperwork completed).
