If you are comparing different countries and the subjects have used a gun for their suicide attempt, you may want to take into account the different gun control laws.
But I find your project really interesting!
This data is super fascinating! I think the visuals you mentioned would pair well with your story if you can duplicate them. My suggestion for the scale since it varies between minutes and hours within the first 48 hours following the crisis would be to emphasis the important time frames in a legend and use then specify within the scale and graph if it is hours or minutes. I look forward to seeing how this turns out!
I really liked your idea. I think you are taking on an important issue that is hard to talk about. Using visualization to 'talk' about this subject can be helpful both for people close and unfamiliar with the subject.
Update: my data is fine I think. Will have to create my own dataframe/base manually, which is fine. Histogram giving me some woes, but I think they will be resolved once I build a better database:
[Pitch]
in the title[Data request]
in the title if I need additional data[Pitch]
and maybe [Data Request]
I notice the website you linked to has several different studies with varying findings. Are you going to show all of them? I still think your histogram with the various buckets will be the most effective. Sorry not to have more constructive feedback other than I think you're on the right track! If you want a fresh set of eyes after you put it through Illustrator, just ping me.
Closing pitch since story has been opened at #131
Hi there, I'm the Playfair Bot! Would you mind posting the appropriate checklist in the main body of your issue? You might have posted it as the first comment, but it turns out it works way better in the actual body of the issue - just go up to the veeery top right and click the pencil icon to edit. You'll probably want to edit the comment to copy the checklist, then edit the original issue to paste it in. Thanks!
I have some data about suicide attempts and impulsivity. Most suicide attempts happen very soon after a crisis (like, less than 10 minutes). I'd like to illustrate that visually with some sort of timeline. Here is the data (from several studies): https://www.hsph.harvard.edu/means-matter/means-matter/impulsivity/ I'd like to represent it in a vertical timeline -- here are image ideas:
