He is popular. Then he disappears: Most people don't know where the former players of the local club went after their time in the town. Even most of the fans don't follow players after multiple transfers.

Soon they can: I want to build an interactive tool to follow all players from the last 10 years through their journey through the football world. A collegue from the sports team did aggregate all the necessary data. In my project I am trying to find a way to present it in a joyful, interactive way.

This sounds really interesting! I am envisioning this as dots (representing the players) moving around a map or graphic, with the movement and their start/end destinations representing their old/new teams and the year of their transfer. One issue you mentioned was geocoding, and I believe you said that it would be best to geocode the stadiums (rather than cities). As long as you have the stadium's address or even zip code – and depending on how many locations there are – this seems doable in carto or geocod.io. Excited to see the completed result!

This sounds like it could be a really interesting visualization - I like your idea of a map that could be selectable by player. I'm not sure what your data looks like, but perhaps club could be indicated by color or symbol somehow (as I'm sure there are lots of clubs in the same cities).
