"United States of Aliens"

summary: "So much of the US election campaign has been about migration this year. Mostly focussing on all the illegal immigrants entering the US. However, since 2009 US companies have hired nearly 7 million foreign workers and laborers to work on farms, in care taking jobs, or as computer engineers on temporary visas"

This map shows the percentage of newly filed temporary of total work force state by state and shows which state requires what type of seasonal, short and mid term work.

After feedback in class I changed around the labelling of the graph and split the jobs into two categories. I experimented with creating a map of @snajmabadi map of squares. And labelling states as @paolorivas suggested. But the former looked really odd with all the icons lined up next to each other. And the latter made the map very messy.

Big thumbs up for the computer science icon being a woman!!! It's such a great project -- would be curious to see something similar done for all other continents!

I also love that for the legend you didn't only make a color scale, but made the scale itself hold extra information in form of a histogram. Such a great piece!

I love this!! It is so well designed/beautiful that it makes me want to spend a lot of time looking at it (I did spend a lot of time checking it out). It's also such an interesting topic and very timely.

Is there a reason that Alaska and Hawaii (assuming that is Hawaii) are backed by a grey boxes? If not, I think that they could be okay without the grey backing. Also, maybe moving the icon off to the side for Hawaii.
