NoSquint is a Firefox add-on that allows you to adjust the text-only and full-page zoom levels as well as color settings both globally (for all sites) and per site.

Images zoomed even when NoSquint configured to only zoom text #61

NoSquint 2.6.1 Firefox 19.0 Windows XP Pro SP-3

I did not want images enlarged (zoomed) by default. Most times they are a size that I can see okay. It's the small text my old eyes have a problem with so I want NoSquint to zoom the text. NoSquint is configured as:

NoSquint_ZoomSettings

Here are the settings in case the image doesn't show up here:

Zooming tab Primary zoom method: Text Zoom (text only) Default full page zoom level: 120% Default text-only zoom level: 120% Zoom increment: 10% Enable zoom with ctrl-mousewheel: Yes Show current zoom levels in status bar: Yes (see side issue below)

Side issue: If I don't configure NoSquint to show its status bar icon, there is no means of accessing NoSquint. If I configure Firefox to not show the status bar, again there is no means of accessing NoSquint. If the status bar icon isn't there or the status bar isn't shown, I have to go to about:addons and click on the Options button to then get to the options for NoSquint, or I have to remember to use about:nosquint. No entry for it is added to the Tools menu which would be handy there. Other add-ons include an entry there (e.g., NoScript, AdBlock Plus).

Main Issue: Images are getting enlarged when only text should be.

I did some Google Image searches and noticed the images were larger. This was evidenced by not as many images displayed per row. With one search (http://www.google.com/search?q=firefox+zoom+toolbar+button), and with NoSquint enabled, I would see 5 images in the first row (and less images in all other rows, too). With NoSquint disabled, I'd see 6 images in the first row (and more images in the other rows, too). The web browser's window was not altered in size between these tests. So something was still getting enlarged images that would reduce how many could occupy the same space.

Here is a screen capture of doing a Google Image search on "firefox zoom toolbar button" while NoSquint was disabled:

NoSquint_disabled

Here is a screen capture of the same web page but after enabling NoSquint:

NoSquint_enabled

Although NoSquint is configured to only zoom text, the images are definitely also getting zoomed (magnified).

Hmm, it looks like the "Primary zoom method" setting is only applied when I change the zoom, like clicking on the -/+ toolbar buttons. It is not applied when a web page gets loaded. So I have to configure NoSquint to NOT zoom the page by default (set it to 100%) and only zoom text by default (120%), as in:

Primary zoom method: Text Zoom (text only) Default full page zoom level: 100% Default text-only zoom level: 120% Zoom increment: 10%

I'll close this since it appears user confusion regarding the behavior and configuration of a new add-on.
