My defs (Reaticulate 0.5+) for Spitfire's Abbey Road One library : Abbey Road One.txt

Richard

rgruet commented 2 years ago

Slightly modified version (1.1): Abbey Road One 1.1.txt

jtackaberry commented 2 years ago

Thanks for the submission @rgruet . Is this for Orchestral Foundations specifically? Or is it for the entire collection?

I don't have AR1 myself but looking at the product page I'm not sure which product this one applies to.

Thanks!

rgruet commented 2 years ago

It's just for the Orchestral Foundations. I forgot to specify it probably because at the beginning there was no extension ;-) I'm attaching a corrected version. If I ever buy some of the extensions I'll try to complete the defs. These extensions don't actually require the foundation, they are more like independent libraries part of a general collection, so Reaticulate defs can also be added individually for each extension.

Do you have a suggestion for the icon to use for percussion defs? I used staccato but that doesn't seem right...

Staccato is as good as any. Looking at the walkthrough video for AROOF I see they're using staccato as well. There's perhaps ghost-eighth as well, which has the "x" note head. Generally Reaticulate could stand to have a few additional icons with different note heads for perc purposes. For now, staccato seems fine.

Thanks for the update!

jtackaberry commented 2 years ago

Uploaded. The only thing I needed to change was i=tenuto as tenuto isn't a valid icon name. I changed it to i=tenuto-quarter.

Thanks!

rgruet commented 2 years ago

Yeah, staccato is the symbol used by Spitfire for ARO OF percussions, that's why I picked it for lack of anything more specific.

Regarding library defs in general: I think their wide availability is as crucial to Reaticulate as games are for a game console, or programs for a computer. Not everyone will have the patience and/or skill to define articulations for his libraries (nor the desire to reinvent the wheel), so relying on contributors to enrich a shared base of library defs makes perfect sense.

However with the current way of contributing, I was wondering how to deal with problems like versioning, or different (alternate) contributions for the same libraries. I guess you have already thought about this and come up with some rules/plans?

Ultimately I envision a Stash-like site where users can both submit their own contributions, and discover banks submitted by other users. Since I can't personally curate and quality-check everything, I imagine some sort of rating system where users can rate the quality of banks on the site, which can help direct users to the most usable, best quality banks.

As for updates, this is tricky. REAPER doesn't provide an API (at least for Lua) to access the network, so without writing a custom extension, Reaticulate can't really discover if updates exist for a given bank. But I can at least provide some limited versioning mechanism on the Stash-like portal, allowing bank authors to update their own banks, and other users to be able to fetch specific versions.

This is something I need to think more about and solicit feedback from other users on the forum, but that's the gist of my early thoughts.

A site with some rating system sounds good. A mechanism, even simple, to allow authors to update their bank is fine. To be automatically notified that updates are available is convenient but not that important. Just my opinion!
