I think you'll enjoy using GitHub Actions to build the pkgdown site and run the R CMD Checks. The functions below will modify some settings in the GH repo, so I can't submit a PR with these updates.
Run usethis::use_pkgdown_github_pages() and the infrastructure will be set up to host your page from the gh-pages branch and each time the master/main branch is updated, the site will be rebuilt and redeployed.
Run usethis::use_github_action_check_standard() to setup the standard R CMD Checks.
