Enhancement request #621

Hello,
Actually, I would like to ask.
1. About waypoints. How many actually one can set? It is written about APM2 -
"Can support hundreds of 3D waypoints". So the number is endless?
1a. Change of a waypoint (the waypoints) during flight. Is it possible?
2. What about the feature "Autonomous takeoff, landing ...". I would like to
launch my UAV and forget about it untill mission complete and than find it
somewhere at the point of return. Possible?
2a. Feature "... and special action commands such as video and camera controls"
what kind of commands and how my camera could be connected with APM2? I would
like to use APM2 for aerial photography and further post-processing
(orthophoto). Does the autopilot suit it?
3. What is the radio for the APM2 to control? Is it "Ardupilot Mega Xbee
Telemetry Kit 2.4Ghz". Is that the only option or the APM 2 could be integrated
with the other

Hello;

Please find my comments, embedded in your main message below;

1. About waypoints. How many actually one can set? It is written about APM2 -
"Can support hundreds of 3D waypoints". So the number is endless?
Rana>>>It can not be endless, will depend on the EEPROM size.

1a. Change of a waypoint (the waypoints) during flight. Is it possible?
Rana>>>Yes you can change the waypoint in flight. In the present waypoint, I
have observed that excluding the current waypoint (A waypoint toward which the
plane is currently heading) rest all waypoints get updated and the Arduplane
modifies its flight path accordingly.

2. What about the feature "Autonomous takeoff, landing ...". I would like to
launch my UAV and forget about it untill mission complete and than find it
somewhere at the point of return. Possible?
Rana>>>Autonomous take off and landing are supported by Arduplane 2.33 and some
of recent versions. I have observed in flight simulation that a point at which
I selected the Arduplane to land, throtel certainly gets cut but plane keeps on
gliding powerless upto appreciable long distance, which is certainly not
desirable. So you have to be careful on selecting a set of waypoints, which are
only responsible to make your plane touch down withing your desired area, based
on the surrounding of your flying ground. I hop you got it.

2a. Feature "... and special action commands such as video and camera controls"
what kind of commands and how my camera could be connected with APM2? I would
like to use APM2 for aerial photography and further post-processing
(orthophoto). Does the autopilot suit it?
Rana>>>Ooops ! You seems to be not familiar with the manual / Wiki pages of the
Arduplane, and started writing all of your desires as feature enhancement.
Please go through the manual / wiki pages of Arduplane.

3. What is the radio for the APM2 to control? Is it "Ardupilot Mega Xbee
Telemetry Kit 2.4Ghz". Is that the only option or the APM 2 could be integrated
with the other
Rana>>>Arduplane supports lots of Telemetry Radios including X-Bee. Please
refer to my comment of your point "2a"

Hi
thanks a lot! Very helpful. And sorry for
However, about 2a (camera control) ... as far as I understood the autopilot is
not suited for the triggering in a distance (between waypionts) (or I have
failed to find appropriate information) - for aerial mappring. Right? (You said
"... and started writing all of your desires as feature enhancement").
That is, actually, also confirmed by a number of recent posts from APM2 users
who struggle to use APM2 for aerial mapping.
But I found people who somehow adjusted AMP2 for mapping (stooting in a
distance etc.) with APM2. This guys are
http://www.event38.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=E382
They claim that there is APM2 only.
What could be a solution. Just give me a hint, please.
Thanks.
