This is the code that implements my suggestion of checking to see if the user is in the dialout group, and if not, some basic instructions on how to add themselves to the group.

What about syncing over a serial port? What about distros that have patched pilot-link packages so that the user does not need to be in the dialout group? I kind of like the idea of Editing the pilot-link udev rules #31 better. I do have commit permissions to @desrods pilot-link repo.
