Apostrophe not preceded by backslash in lang files

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Download project
2. Import into eclipse
3. 1000s of "R cannot be resolved" errors

R.java wasn't being generated, looks like the cause of the problem was a 
missing backslash before some apostrophes in the language files, here are the 
"fixes"

//strings.xml
<string name="Wanda_2_6_1_1">
Hey Mr. Android, are you stuck?  Here, I\'ll clear a path for you.  
</string>

// wanda.xml:
<string name="Wanda_2_6_1_1">
Hey Mr. Android, are you stuck?  Here, I\'ll clear a path for you.  
</string>

The offending apostrophe in strings.xml is at:
<string name="Diary13">
He lied he ... cheek.  But no, I mustn\'t go to ... its savior.\n
</string>
