Cannot skip forward/backward with Samsung SmartTV app #15

I'm accessing the plex server via the Samsung SmartTV app. I can watch and pause live TV with HDGrandSlam, but I cannot skip or use fast forward/reverse.

You should be able to rewind or fast forward as long as you stay within the buffer. For example, start a stream, wait a minute, then you should be able to rewind. Then pause it for a few seconds then you should be able to fast forward. If you go beyond the buffer in either direction, it will stop. That's a limitation of Plex.

Really just isn't working for me. Playback pauses for a second after pushing the various skip buttons, but the video just resumes from that point.

Maybe the smart TV isn't robust enough to buffer a substantial amount. I can try out my Samsung smart TV later.

I see the same behavior with HDHomeRun Viewer V2, so I suspect the issue is between the plex client and server.

opoplawski commented 7 years ago

Unfortunately absolutely nothing appears in the plex logs while doing these operations.

In fact using a different plugin and getting the same issue is more evidence that the issue rests with the TV. Have you got a another device to use as a plex client to test?

JayBobMI commented 7 years ago

I just installed the plugin for the first time, version 1.6. I use my Windows 7.1 computer as a HTPC so my client and server are on the same computer. I can watch and pause TV but cant skip forward/backward. I have the latest HomeRun firmware (v20161107) FYI: I love what you have done so far. This is the last piece I need to allow me to remove WMC from my computer. Thanks for all your work!

Try a different client as suggested above. It's likely that the smart TV doesn't have the ability to buffer the stream - hence no skipping.

JayBobMI commented 7 years ago

I'll try that, but I'm not using a smart TV. Its just my monitor hooked up to my Windows 7 computer. So my client is the Windows Plex Media Player client. Client 1: I tried a browser client, which I didn't expect to work. And it didn't. I get "There was a problem playing this item. Client 2: Next I tried my Roku 3 box. When I press play you see a few flashes on the screen about "loading 13%" then black. Followed by "Unknown Network Error" "Playback has stopped due to multiple playback errors. Please check your connection and try again" Client 3: On Android it just gives a blank screen with the title of the program at the top. (tried without and with the mp3 setting) So only the windows 7 client, Plex Media Player, apearrs to partially work for me save for the forward/backward issue.
