The text styles menu only has the buttons necessary to assign content a style and lacks any indication of what styling selected content currently has. The only way to know how text is styled is to assign it different styles until you see it does not change (which is unhelpful).
One of these methods would provide feedback to users of current text styling and fit with the current menu design.
