icons show in chrome but not safari #61

I'm not sure if this is the same issue as #59 but when we tested with 70 students in class today those using Chrome could see the launcher icons in jupyterlab and those using safari (or other I believe) could not. This is the same docker container being shown from a server.

It is also an issue with older versions of firefox and microsoft edge. The current version of each browser works...
