Improve discoverability of binder-examples org #598

Open willingc opened 6 years ago

willingc commented 6 years ago

At the PyCon sprints and I've had a few Binder questions. @choldgraf @betatim It would be nice to add a link to binder-examples in the UI Step 2. Also to the section of docs in BinderHub http://mybinder.readthedocs.io/en/latest/using.html#preparing-a-repository-for-binder

betatim commented 6 years ago

Where is "UI Step 2"?

There is a call out/tip here already: http://mybinder.readthedocs.io/en/latest/using.html#supported-configuration-files maybe we need to move "Example binder repositories" closer to the start of the sentence. (I scanned over the box just now.)

choldgraf commented 6 years ago

Perhaps this is something we could put on the main binder page? E.g., "join the chat, read the docs, see the code, browse the examples"

I totally agree those repositories could/should be more discoverable

betatim commented 6 years ago

Maybe we should take the "join chat, read docs, see code, browse examples" and turn it into a bullet point list right at the top (below the form). And have the "How it works" section after that?

willingc commented 6 years ago

Sorry @betatim and @choldgraf. UI Step 2 was the Number 2 item here 👍

Aha! :) What do you think of my suggestion of bullet point list above these steps?

choldgraf commented 6 years ago

I like bullet points!

This is a great idea.

willingc commented 6 years ago

I like the concept but I am not sure bullets are the right UI element. Perhaps one of the design folks should weigh in.

I tried a UL and it doesn't look nice. (General observation: the CSS and HTML is what some might call "messy" which makes it hard to add new things and have them look consistent. Maybe one day we meet someone who has the skills to create a similar look with a clean CSS :-/)

jzf2101 commented 6 years ago

I think we would probably need fewer bullets anyway.
