Create a square JupyterHub logo #526

Context

Right now, I believe that the "official" JupyterHub logo is this one:

Although there aren't any SVG/marks/etc files in the JupyterHub design repository, and I also couldn't find any logos in the Jupyter design repository either, so maybe the rectangular logo is "unofficial" as well?

To my knowledge there is not a square version of this logo. Square logos can be quite useful, especially as a part of putting together presentations and slides. And in either case, it would be very helpful to have SVG and "official" versions of the logos for others to re-use.

Proposal

We should find volunteers in the community, or contract out, some design work to create a square logo for JupyterHub. We could put this in the JupyterHub design repository (link above) and encourage their re-use by others.

I think design by committee can be a really long and frustrating process, so my vote would be for people to provide their general wishes and thoughts for a logo, and then we can empower one or two people to steward the logo effort, and have an "only object if you really don't like it" vote at the end of the process.

Sounds good to me! Do you think there's the appetite in the wider Jupyter community for a square logo template that could be used with other projects, especially if the work is being contracted out? That would make it really easier to arrange multiple Jupyter project logos.

I'd say: likely yes, but I'm not sure it is worth the coordination penalty we would pay to try and get everybody else on-board. I am happy to be proven wrong there though. I think that the more voices we need to involve in a decision-making process outside of the JupyterHub team, the more likely it won't happen :-)

Does anybody else have thoughts? I am happy to try and make a push for others in the community to join but only if people her want to go that route. I'd probably suggest something like a Forum post that notes our intentions with a similar justification as what is here, and asks if any other sub-communities are interested. What do you think?
