Black GIF output in El Capitan 10.11.2 #6

Open pravipati opened 8 years ago

pravipati commented 8 years ago

When trying to use LICEcap on my mac the only output I'm seeing is a black gif and in some captures I can see cursor being tracked. Both of my capture attempts were set to a max FPS of 8 frames.

Steps I've tried:

pressingenter

with shortened capture length and smaller res size:

pressingenter2

rwam commented 8 years ago

Same here at MAC OS X 10.9.5 – after uninstall with AppCleaner and reinstall it work's again.

Edit: only the first capture works. Now I have black gifs again ;(

metaturso commented 8 years ago

Using LiceCap v1.25 I have same problem.

Black gifs (with pointer) are recorded on Macbook 15" with El Capitan. This seems to always be the case when multiple monitor are connected, it doesn't matter which monitor the program is capturing from.

If I recall correctly I was able to record one gif, but I had to reboot first and make the recording prior to connecting the external monitors.

Used to work fine on multi-monitor setups on both Maverics, Yosemite and El Capitan on a Macbook pro 13".

jcrben commented 8 years ago

Seems to work for me on my El Capitan Macbook. I see this affect when I maximize the capture to full screen only.

@trashofmasters there hasn't been a commit in 6 months - were you using a version from prior to then? If you're ambitious you could try to use git bisect to isolate the regression.

jcrben commented 8 years ago

This is a problem in the original Licecap https://github.com/lepht/licecap/issues/4 as well.

By the way, brew cask probably does not install this version. I installed using brew cask which downloads 1.25 directly from the homepage. This repository is versioned at 1.26 https://github.com/justinfrankel/licecap/commit/7546b1b1fcdba7f311d9a6c0174b475968877770

DonPage commented 8 years ago

+1 I'm having the same problem when I updated to EL Capitan on my early 2015 MacBook Pro. Only the mouse is show with black screen.

cgrossde commented 8 years ago

+1 Same problem but it only occurs if you have multiple screens connected. If I unplug my 2nd screen it works as expected. I'm using v1.25 and El Captain 10.11.2

pravipati commented 8 years ago

Just tried unplugging my second monitor as per @cgrossde and it worked like a charm!

edit: huh, now it works with my second monitor plugged in as well. I'm on El Capitan 10.11.3 now.

viklas commented 8 years ago

Can confirm - works fine on multiple monitors running latest OSX 10.11.3

lnmunhoz commented 8 years ago

@viklas Same OSX version but black screen...

nadiagarcia commented 8 years ago

+1 Is this going to be fixed anytime soon?

umamiMike commented 8 years ago

Same Here El Capitan

AdamKalnas commented 8 years ago

Having the same problem. OSX Yosemite - 10.10.5 - licecap v 1.25

AdamKalnas commented 8 years ago

FYI.. This is not an issue for me using licecap v 1.24 - I uninstalled v1.25 and installed 1.24. Will stick with the old version for now since that seems stable. http://www.cockos.com/licecap/licecap124.dmg

cvharris commented 8 years ago

Thanks @AdamKalnas, I reverted back to 1.24 as well and it worked for me! With 1.25 I was only able to record successfully once in the past week.

MattQlik commented 8 years ago

I also got just one good capture from going back to 1.24, after that it was just a black screen again.

AdamKalnas commented 8 years ago

@MattQlik - make sure that you are taking the gif from the main active display

MattQlik commented 8 years ago

@AdamKalnas Thanks for the hint. I was using it on the main display if you mean the one with the Dock. I have a setup with two monitors connected to a Macbook and my Dock is on one of the monitors. I've now installed 1.23 and that seems to work so I'll stick with that for now.

jkillian commented 8 years ago

Tried downgrading to 1.24 and also capturing on my main display, but still getting a black GIF. LiceCap is great, but this just makes it a little difficult to use currently 😉

anandgraves commented 8 years ago

I also have the same issue on OSX 10.10.5 with LiceCap 1.25. I'm only getting black GIFs as a result.

ldong commented 8 years ago

1.24 works for me. @JKillian

Can you make your Thunderbolt Display is set to be something like this?

langrenfengzi commented 8 years ago

v1.25 has the same issue on MacOS Sierra v10.12. And v1.24 seemed ok in my main display, and still black in my second display.

hannahkates commented 7 years ago

I had the same issue (El Capitan 10.11.6 and licecap v1.25) and was able to resolve it by unplugging the hdmi to my monitor. When it was plugged in, recording on the main laptop desktop display did not work, but as soon as I unplugged it, it worked normally.

bartlomn commented 7 years ago

Neither 1.25 nor 1.24 work for me. Unplugging secondary display does not help as well. OsX 10.12.1 (16B2555)

urda commented 7 years ago
macOS Sierra 10.12.2
LICEcap v1.25

I can confirm that unplugging my external display allowed me to record a gif without having nothing but a black result.

gyubokbaik commented 7 years ago

Went back to 1.24, no display plugged in - it works.

j-der commented 7 years ago

As others have mentioned, I unplugged my external monitor, quit and restarted LiceCap, and it worked. macOS Sierra 10.12.2

ldong commented 7 years ago

FYI, I found a software that works on external monitor, https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/giphy-capture.-the-gif-maker/id668208984?mt=12

Just want to let you guys know, who had been struggling for at least a year.

pwittchen commented 7 years ago

I unplugged all external monitors on macOS Sierra 10.12.3 and this bug still occurs with Licecap 1.25 (gif with black screen was recorded).

xavierlefevre commented 7 years ago

I confirm that I have the same issue, with two screens, with LICEcap v1.25, on a MacOS Sierra 10.12.3 (macbook pro 13" end 2016)

with just my macbook screen it works normaly

jayliew commented 7 years ago

Same problem on OS X, downgraded to 1.24 and unplugged Thunderbolt monitor, and it worked

ghost commented 7 years ago

Reproduced on macOS Sierra 10.12.3 with Thunderbolt monitor.

dzoba commented 7 years ago

My team is also experiencing this issue and would love a fix. We are trying to v1.24 downgrade now.

fabiobiondi commented 7 years ago

1.24 and 1.25 does not work anymore (I have 2 external monitors - El Capitan 10.11.6)

jcrben commented 7 years ago

I'm not if it helps to add a comment saying that you reproduced the problem. Lots of people have reproduced the issue. Maybe just click the upvote reaction and think about submitting a pull request if it's a big problem for you?

I'm using https://github.com/wulkano/kap lately which seems to work OK. Unsubscribing to this.

MrNickBreen commented 7 years ago

I have El Capitan 10.11.5 and a Thunderbolt display. When I disconnect the monitor AND restart Licecap v 1.25 it works well! Not ideal but it works :D

rjimenezda commented 7 years ago

Sierra (10.12.5), licecap 1.25, had the issue while connected to a second display, couldn't record on either.

I opened the display settings, moved the bar to the external screen, tried again, and it works for now.

NikosDim commented 7 years ago

I am working on a Mac Book Pro with a second screen connected through hdmi. I tried licecap 1.25 on the second screen and I got black images. I tried it on my Mac's screen and worked fine.

chrischiang410 commented 7 years ago

MacOS Sierra (10.12.3), licecap 1.25, had the same issue (get black GIF). Downgrade to v1.24 and it worked.

MoOx commented 7 years ago

Same on macOS 10.12 and 10.13. In short: licecap only work on main screen. So just use it on this one. If required, change main screen using Display settings and the menubar trick.

lippytak commented 7 years ago

I'm on macOS Sierra 10.12.5 with 2013 Macbook Air and neither downgrading to .24 or unplugging external monitor work. Any other ideas/solutions?

imaizume commented 7 years ago

Confronted the same black screen issue under Sierra OS (10.12.6) with my Macbook Pro Late 2016 model. It occurred when I was capturing in second screen on clamshell mode. But worked fine after rebooted machine so it helps some I suppose.

yereverluvinunclebert commented 7 years ago

Love LiceCap but it doesn't work on my current system, Windows 7 64bit, does the black screen capture thing. Has worked on XP/Vista 32bit/Windows 10 64bit but for some reason this Dell Latitude e5400 has a problem. Tried uninstalling, reinstalling, older versions &c but no luck. My favourite GIF capture tool does not work on this machine. LiceCap is my preferred too but I'm off to try GifCam. Pity.

EDIT: Tried the GIFcam option, almost identical in operation to LiceCap. Unfortunately it does exactly the same, black GIFs. Just a guess but I am assuming it has something to do with the e5400s low-powered Intel GPU. Intel GM45/47 Chipset - Integrated Graphics 0 [B3] [DELL]

DianaEromosele commented 7 years ago

fyi: version 124 (http://www.cockos.com/licecap/licecap124.dmg) just worked for me (in addition to unplugging 2nd monitor)

esaruoho commented 6 years ago

posted this: #31 about the issue on multiple display screens and black screen w/ mouse cursor recording, but also posted it to the LiceCapCE https://github.com/dialex/licecap-CE/issues/5

esaruoho commented 6 years ago

If I restart licecap, the black screen recording will stop occurring.

ganjarpanji commented 6 years ago

ive restarted several times and this still occured

vintox1 commented 5 years ago

Touching base to see if a fix was ever implemented for the black screen on extended monitors. Running 1.29 and otherwise loving it, fantastic little tool.

charleschan-okta commented 4 years ago

I saw same issue on macOS Mojave Version 10.14.6 (MacBook Pro 15-inch, 2019). Tried licecap version 1.2.3, 1.2.4, 1.3.0 on multiple screens (like 2) After reading this thread, instead I just invoke licecap and capture only on my laptop window (not on 2nd screen) and it works (with any licecap version). I'll use this workaround for now.

esaruoho commented 2 years ago

@pravipati are you still having this issue or has it been fixed by installing a new version? if no longer having this issue, can you close this ticket?
