I am testing this for ideas.
I suggest that we use the multijump mechanic to gate players from progressing. They wouldn't reach higher areas until they've gathered enough cogs to jump up there. Verticality will better encourage players to look upwards toward their goal and other possible cogs to go towards.
Let me know what you all think.
Design the level in such a way that prevent the player from getting to the finish without collecting all the gears. This could be from column height that can't be jumped unless you collect enough gears.
