Hi,

these days I found your great markdown plugin. I extended it a bit according to my needs. The changes are rather straight-forward and address some of the issues listed at github. Would be glad if you pull them into your repo.

I like the idea, but it does break existing functionality. Maybe we should be able to pragmatically define what characters define the mode? What are your thoughts?

That makes sense, especially as there is already a config file and "infrastructure". I will adapt the branch and let you know.
