Stumbling blocks should be explicitly assigned to a student

pebs74 commented 10 years ago

This is a pedagogical decision which we have proposed this way:

Teachers have two ways of assigning stumbling blocks to students, either they let students choose a number of SBs freely, or they assign them by hand. Either ways, we think this part doesn't need to be strictly shown in the system at first. This is because the final video me vary slightly the selection of SBs used, and the ones used will be tagged into the final video. So even though a group has chosen 3 initial SBs, they may end up only using 2, or changing one of them with another group (if the teacher allows so). The important assignment, we think, is not between SBs and Groups/Students, but between SBs and Videos.

This is another issue to further discuss if necessary.

The students need guidance on what they should do. The first and easiest scaffold will be to tell them what they should do by narrowing down the problem space. In combination with jig saw like designs (different groups have different assignments; they learn from each others's products) there are different points in the process where stumbling blocks play their role. Thus, yes, the relation between stumbling blocks and videos is important (after their composition), but the system also needs to know what the group of student's should have dealt with and the students need to know on what to focus on.
