Renamed README to README.md to enable proper markdown formatting. Interestingly, while the file in the docs folder is well formatted, the symlink is displayed differently; but still an improvement over the unformatted text

Thanks for the PR, but this is not right. The README is not in Markdown; it's reStructuredText. I've pushed the correct fix as b62882d7dadb0fed3c4f4281b114c0f9d3b4ddf9.

Ah, sorry about that, it did look a bit weird to be Markdown. Glad it's fixed though!
